It is that time of the month again. And, I decided to write about love and longing from a man’s perspective. You know, how a woman can drive a man CRAZY. Yeah, I wrote that in all caps.

Samantha left.

She didn’t say she was leaving. She just did. There was no note, no explanation, only an empty sleeping bag disheveled on the floor next to Ricardo’s. Her scent, a mixture of a spicy perfume and her natural aroma, pervaded the air in the tent, tormenting his every inhalation.

As much as Ricardo wanted, needed some fresh air, he couldn’t pull himself away from the small space saturated with her smell. It would be there when he returned. But, he hesitated, not willing to take himself into the world outside.

Finally, he rolled over to his back from the fetal position he balled into after finding Samantha absent. He had done everything she asked, respected her space, her need to simply be. Like the countless times before, Ricardo found himself thoroughly rejected, forsaken, even. Samantha chose to rob him of her presence when he more than tried to appease her every want.
