Always Thinking …

While preparing to go to sleep I became aware of my personal night time routine. Of course I tend to the kids by making sure they are clean, safe, and prayed for. But, there are things I do without thought like take off my make up, shower, brush my teeth, check to see if the doors are locked, set the alarm, take the pillows with shams off the bed, and spend a little time with Jesus. I think my routine is similar to most women.

However, since I’m always thinking I keep a pen, a journal, and my Kindle with me at all times. Before I get in bed these items are placed on my night table along with a book light and my Android phone. As a writer I’ve learned the necessity of being prepared to jot down thoughts, story ideas, and potential markets. Now, I use the same approach when I consult on public relations projects or as I run my home.

In the past I kept a separate thought journal for writing, work, and home. Imagine carrying around 3 journals all the time. I had a heavy purse and a crowded night stand until I applied the KISS principle.

Sister (some people use stupid here)

Keeping it simple has helped me to get a better grasp on things, especially my thoughts as I’m always thinking.

How do you keep your thoughts and ideas in order?

I keep a notebook, too. It's always beside me. Usually to the left of my behemoth of a laptop. It has my to-do list for the days (I usually transfer them from my digital and print calendar to the notebook - something about writing it fresh again each week helps me remember), which has my to-dos for academics, creativity, and familial and personal activities and needs to do. I have other, smaller pocket pads that I keep for other things, but this one notebook is KEY.
