MMT: The Cooler, Your Kitchen Away From Home

Coleman Picnic CoolerFor many parents back-to-school extends far beyond early morning carpools and homework assignments. Back-to-school, in some cases, means back-to-karate, -football, -band, -cheer, -golf … you get the picture.

All of the busyness places moms in a dilemma: how do I feed my family on the go without breaking my wallet while giving them healthy meals?

Whip out that cooler you used for the picnics during the summer and fill it with nutritious snacks or to-go meals you made in advance.

Dinner does not have to be hot but it should be healthy. Try making PBJ & Banana sandwiches with a fruit salad on the side. Or, fill take n toss bowls with salad mix then stop at your local grocery store for some roasted chicken to top it off.

Almost every time I get in my car, I take a small cooler filled with water, snacks, and, sometimes, quick meals. Doing this has saved us money and promotes healthy eating and spending habits with our kids.

I find this is an inexpensive way to feed the kids. When we go to the park or live concerts this is the perfect way to feed my kids without going broke. I usually will take a meal and then offer to pay for a dessert later.

I think the kids like having mini picnics. I normally pack sandwiches, chips and juice. If I want to get fancy, I might have chicken. One night we bought drinks and picked up a pizza. The kids thought that was cool.

LaShaunda,

Thanks for stopping by. I love the dessert idea. And, of course pizza always works — especially with all of the deals the pizza shops have now.
